Shooting into the Sun – Wildwood family photographer

Sep

Shooting into the sun. Should we do it? Yes. Is it easy? If you practice and know the tricks. 🙂  What is so frequently talked about is finding the right light to illuminate your subjects faces. Of course thats necessary for those soft and bright creamy skin tones, but if you want to get a bit creative, just try having some sun behind your subjects! I do talk about this in my compose workshops, so out of fairness to them, I won’t go into too much crazy detail, but trust me. It’s SO worth it.  So go out and try having the sun behind your subjects. You will be surprised at how creative you can get!

This family was DARLING and I just had to have a backlit shoot. About 50% of these images were shot into the sun and I just totally am in love.  It’s so fun to be able to get creative and use the sun for FUN too! Plus how cute is this family. For real cute. Here are some of the highlights from their shoot, which I am totally in love with 🙂

When most people think about a […]

Senior year always feels far away… until it suddenly isn’t. Being a St. Louis senior photographer is one of my favorite! If you’re starting to think about senior photos for the Class of 2026 or Class of 2027, spring and summer are some of the easiest seasons to book. I photograph seniors throughout the St. […]

Senior Photos in St. Louis | Class of 2026 & 2027 Spring + Summer Sessions

GAH. How is Eva old enough to graduate. She will be graduating this Spring of 2026 from Saint Joseph’s Academy (Saint Joe). This hurts my brain. I have known and photographed her since she was little as I’ve known her mom a long time! I love this season I am in with who I’m photographing. […]

family in color and black at white at sunset

I discovered a hidden spot during my son’s soccer practice that would ONLY work for about 15-20 minutes AT sunset, and ONLY if there was sun. I mean…. I GUESS we could do NO sun too…. but the sunset was epic here. Actually, this was late in the season and we had to move spots, […]
